About the Department

Rapid population growth, resource scarcity due to industrial development, and environmental challenges such as ecosystem degradation and pollution due to excessive energy use are the most serious threats to humanity in recent history. Energy and environmental issues are now recognized as a common and serious situation that threatens the survival of all living things, and their importance is only increasing.

The biggest contributor to these problems is the excessive and inefficient use of energy, and in order to solve environmental problems more efficiently, we must come together to fundamentally solve the energy problem. Energy and Environmental Engineering is a department that trains professional energy and environmental engineers who can solve current energy and environmental problems based on the founding philosophy of Catholic University and the philosophy of the dignity of human life, the natural environment, and the preciousness of energy

Major Course Guide

Year 1 │ Introduction to Environmental Engineering

Since environmental pollution has been recognized as an important issue for human survival, environmental issues have been steadily changing. The rate of industrial development and the rate at which threatening pollutants are generated are proportional, and they have an organic influence on each other. The environmental problems caused by this are becoming more complex and diverse. Add to this the severe climate change caused by global warming, and it is clear that the environment is now a major concern for the entire human race. To help students cope with these issues, the Introduction to Environmental Engineering program introduces them to the basic principles of environmental pollution, treatment and prevention, which they can build on to study more advanced environmental engineering subjects.

Year 1 │ Introduction to Energy Engineering

There is a growing demand for new energy sources to replace fossil fuels, which have the greatest impact on the environment. As a result, it is important to impart specialized knowledge of environmental and energy issues to prepare students to solve energy and environmental problems.

Year 2

Students will learn about water and environmental engineering, which is the foundation of the major, and environmental quantities, which are the basis of all engineering calculations.

Water Quality and Environmental Engineering

This course aims to learn the physical and chemical theories of the water environment in order to understand the water environment and recognize water quality management, and to cultivate the ability to solve water pollution problems in the future. In addition, students will learn about the general characteristics of water, sources of pollution, basic physical and chemical theories, pollution phenomena, and various methods to solve water pollution.

Year 3

In-depth and specialized learning in the fields of atmospheric, microbiological, waste management, renewable energy engineering, and more.

Air Quality Engineering

To understand the chemistry of various pollutants in the atmosphere and treatment technologies, students will learn the chemistry of air pollution, types of air pollutants, sources, effects, microclimate, overview of prevention technologies, and air management techniques.

Renewable Energy Engineering and Practice

This course provides a general understanding of energy, both fossil fuel-based and renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and fusion energy.

Year 4

Explore the latest environmental issues such as environmental biotechnology, environmental issues and specialized research and learn how to operate analytical instruments required in environmental engineering.

Environmental Impact Assessment

Water quality is based on the theory and technology of biotechnology, soil, air pollution, alternative energy, and other environmental issues based on the theory and technology of biotechnology. This course is designed to synthesize the impact of various development activities on the ecosystem and natural environment in advance, and evaluate the overall environmental impact so that sustainable development can be achieved through post-pollution prevention and environmental conservation.

Academic Activities

Academic Departments

A group for in-depth research on topics related to energy and environmental engineering outside of regular classes. Members can apply at the beginning of the first semester of their freshman year; and during the first semester, members organize the results obtained through relevant data collection and experiments to prepare a presentation, and in the second semester, they hold a regular academic festival based on what they’re prepared. Through academic club activities, students can acquire a wide range of knowledge in various majors, interact with their peers, develop presentation skills and PPT production skills through research presentations, and actively interact with professors.

Study of Energy & Environmental Engineering SEEE

This club is divided into two groups based on the topics of energy and environment, and conducts serious discussions and research on related topics. It is open to sophomores and above, and other majors are welcome to join.

Energy & Environmental Engineering Career Club

This club is organized by fourth-year students of EE, to exchange and share information about job hunting and gain job hunting experience through contact with graduated seniors. Third-year students can join if they are interested.
